About this indicator

What it measures
The purchasing power of the Australian dollar with September 2025 = 100. A value of 200 means a dollar then bought twice what it buys at September 2025 prices.
How it is calculated
Calculated by us from the all-groups CPI index in RBA table G1: 10,000 ÷ CPI.
How to read it
The line falls whenever prices rise. Each 1% rise in prices lowers it by about 1%.
Caveats
Uses capital-city consumer prices and says nothing about whether incomes kept pace.
Frequency
Quarterly
Typical release
Quarterly with the CPI.
