About this indicator

What it measures
The change in the all-groups CPI from the same month a year earlier, Australia (weighted average of the eight capital cities).
How it is calculated
Published by the ABS as the percentage change from the corresponding month of the previous year (original series).
How to read it
Gives a reading on inflation each month rather than each quarter.
Caveats
The complete monthly CPI only goes back to April 2024, so year-ended rates start in April 2025. It replaced the earlier monthly CPI indicator, which priced a smaller share of the basket each month.
Frequency
Monthly
Typical release
Monthly, about four weeks after the end of the reference month.
