My investments and what changed

What the My investments page shows, how holdings count as watched, and where each figure comes from.

My investments puts everything you follow on one page: your portfolios, what you hold, the assets you watch, what changed, what's coming up, your alerts and the trades open in your journal. It lists facts with their dates and sources, and nothing in it is a recommendation.

The page reads the prices, filings and calendars the site has already collected, so it opens quickly and never waits on a provider. The time at the top says when the page was built, and every price shows when it was observed. A price from before the latest session is marked "Older price".

Currencies

  • Each asset in its own currency: a US share or ETF is always shown in US dollars and an ASX share or ETF in Australian dollars, whoever is looking. Currency pairs are shown as a rate, commodities in their quoting unit (for example US dollars per troy ounce), index levels in points with no currency, and Treasury yields as a percentage whose change is in percentage points.
  • Portfolio totals in the portfolio's base currency: each portfolio's value and change are in the base currency you chose for it.
  • Totals across portfolios in your currency: when you have more than one portfolio, the combined total is in the currency saved in your account settings (any currency we hold a reference rate for), converted at the stored rate, and each rate, its source and its date are shown underneath. A holding's value marked ≈ is the same kind of approximate conversion; the amount in the listing's currency stays beside it.

The sections

  • Portfolios: each portfolio's value at the latest stored prices, and the latest session's change: each holding's shares times its move from the previous close to the latest stored price. Holdings without a previous close, or with an older price, are left out of the change and the page says how many were counted.
  • Holdings: every open position across your portfolios, with shares, price, the latest session's move and value. A listing held in two portfolios is shown once, with both portfolio names.
  • Watching: the assets on your watchlist (stocks, ETFs, indices, bond yields, coins, currency pairs and commodities), and, unless you turn it off, what you hold, marked "Held". Each US or ASX share or ETF has an Add to portfolio button that opens the transaction form with the symbol filled in, and every row has an Alert button that opens a price, level or yield alert for it. Add an asset with the search box above the list.
  • What changed: the three largest moves among what you watch and hold (a yield's move ranked by its size relative to the yield, and shown in percentage points), and material SEC filings, ASX announcements and recognised corporate events for those stocks from the last 7 days, linking the original documents. Your holdings always count here, even if you have chosen not to show them in Watching.
  • Coming up: announced dividends (declared by the company, times the shares you hold) and estimated dividends (projected from past payments, marked as estimates) are kept in separate lists, as in the dividend income plan. Earnings report and ex-dividend dates in the next 14 days come from Nasdaq's calendars, refreshed hourly, and an ETF's next distribution from the fund's stored record when it lists one ahead of its ex-date; ASX results dates aren't available from a free source. Pending corporate events are takeover offers, tender offers and shareholder votes from the last 90 days.
  • Alerts: your active price and event alerts with the current price beside each target, and the alerts that triggered in the last 30 days. Manage them on the alerts page.
  • Open trades: trades open in your trade journal, with how far the latest price is from your stop and from your next target.

Holdings in Watching

What you hold is shown in Watching by default, so the list covers everything you follow. Select "Stop showing my holdings here" under the list to show only your watchlist; your holdings still appear under Holdings and still count in What changed and Coming up. The setting is saved with your account and included in your data download.

The watchlist page

The watchlist page still shows the same "What changed" summary for the assets you saved, and is where you reorder, remove, export or share your watchlist.

What it doesn't cover

Filings are collected in rotation, so a new filing can take a few hours to appear. An empty list is not proof that nothing was published. Upcoming dates are as listed by Nasdaq and can change. Index levels and Treasury yields are shown on their own pages rather than in Watching.
