You can set two kinds of alert from the Alerts page. Both send email.
Price alerts
A price alert emails you when a stock, ETF, coin, currency pair or commodity price, an index level or a US Treasury yield rises above or falls below a level you choose. Alerts are checked every minute against stored data only, so one fires on the first check after the value crosses your level.
- A price is in the listing's own currency.
- An index level is in points, with no currency.
- A yield is a percentage: enter 4.25 for 4.25%. Treasury yields are published once a business day, a day late.
An alert never triggers on an out-of-date value. Each kind must be current for its market: a share or ETF price from the latest trading session, a coin, currency or commodity price from the last 24 hours, an index level from the latest session (or, for exchanges whose holidays we don't hold, from the previous weekday or later), and a yield from the last five days. Until a current value is stored the alert waits. The email, and the alert on your page, say when the value it triggered on was observed.
- Once: the alert stops after it triggers. You can reactivate it.
- Daily: it can email again at most once a day while the price stays past your level.
- Every time: at most once an hour.
Event alerts
An event alert emails you when a stock publishes a new filing or announcement of the kind you choose: a merger or acquisition, results, a capital raising, a management change, or anything material (for ASX stocks, anything marked price sensitive). Only items published after you create the alert count, and each one is sent once. The email lists what was published with links to the original documents; it doesn't interpret them.
Limits and stopping
Free accounts can have 5 active alerts and Premium accounts 100. Every alert email has a link that stops that alert, and you can delete alerts at any time.
