About this indicator

What it measures
Unemployed people as a percentage of the labour force, aged 15 and over, seasonally adjusted.
How it is calculated
From the ABS Labour Force Survey of about 50,000 people each month, as published in RBA table H5.
How to read it
A rising rate signals a weakening labour market. The RBA watches it against its estimate of full employment.
Caveats
A survey estimate: month-to-month moves of 0.1-0.2 percentage points are often noise. The ABS trend series smooths this.
Frequency
Monthly
Typical release
Monthly, usually in the middle of the following month at 11:30 a.m. Sydney time.
