About this indicator
- What it measures
- The change in real (chain volume) GDP from the previous quarter, seasonally adjusted.
- How it is calculated
- Calculated by us from the real GDP level in RBA table H1: (GDP this quarter ÷ GDP last quarter − 1) × 100. Australia quotes quarterly growth without annualising.
- How to read it
- A negative quarter means output shrank. To compare with the US headline figure, which is annualised, multiply roughly by four, or compare the year-ended growth rates instead.
- Caveats
- GDP is revised with each later release as more data arrive.
- Frequency
- Quarterly
- Typical release
- Quarterly, about nine weeks after the quarter ends (early March, June, September and December).
